The National Scholarships for Talented Children from Rural Areas for Secondary Stage Study scheme has been in a successful manner operational in India since 1971-1972. The primary objective of this particular scheme is to largely provide great opportunities to rural area school students to pursue secondary stage education with a lot of perfection. On the other hand, the number of scholarships every year allocated is directly communicated to the concerned departments of the state government and union territory administration authorities. There is perfect cooperation and coordination between the government at the central, state and UT administration related to this scholarship scheme. The number of scholarship provided is approximately 43, 000 per year.

The category-wise actual distribution of 43,000 scholarships is as mentioned below:
• Scheduled Tribes Children – 3 Scholarships per Tribal Community Development Block
• Scheduled Castes Children – 2 Scholarships per Community Development Block and 1 additional scholarship per CDB having 20% or more SC population
• Children of Landless Laborers – 2 scholarships per Community Development Block
• General Category – 4 Scholarships per Community Development Block

Scholarship Value: The selected candidates are provided with an amount of Rs. 30 to 100 per month. The said amount is paid to the candidates through their institution. The mentioned amount is paid from the beginning to end of the academic year related secondary stage education. It is to be remembered that this particular scholarship is immediately renewed subject to better academic record and progress as per the expected level.

Eligibility for National Scholarships for Talented Children from Rural Areas
A student who is studying in a school in a community development block in class VI to VIII is fully eligible to apply for this particular scholarship. The applicant should be an Indian citizen. He or she should submit proof of residing in his or her village, block, taluk and district of the state from the concerned authorities.

Age Limit: Candidates should be between the age group of 8 to 16 years.

Fee for Application: There is no application fee.

Application Process: In the prescribed Performa, students should apply for the above mentioned scholarship on plain paper with one recent passport size photograph, requisite documents and other documents and related papers before the last date.

Selection Process: The selection process for National Scholarships for Talented Children from Rural Areas for Secondary Stage comes with two stage examination. Only a limited number of students who has passed both the selection examination are called for personal interview. Final short-listed candidates are prepared and informed to them and concerned authorities before the commencement of the academic year.
