NTSE Scholarship 2016
One of the popular competitive examinations that are held throughout India for granting scholarships for students who belong to Class X or equivalent is National Talent Search Examination (NTSE). It is conducted in a successful manner by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). This particular examination is regarded as one of the toughest scholarship exam in the nation. The said organization aims to largely bring about improvement in qualitative nature in school education. This particular scholarship scheme was introduced to find the talented students in the subject of Science and provide them with financial assistance. The numbers of scholarship provided are 1000 scholarships every year. It includes 3% for Physically Challenged Group of students, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes candidates and 15% scholarships are reserved for Scheduled Castes candidates. Under the present scheme, the said scholarships are awarded to the eligible candidates for pursuing courses in social sciences and sciences up to doctoral level plus in professional courses such as engineering and medicine up to second-degree level.
Scholarship value: The amount of scholarship provided is Rs. 500/- per month for all the selected students studying in Class XI onwards except for Ph.D., wherein it is actually paid according to UGC norms.
Eligibility for NTSE Scholarship: This scholarship examination is conducted for class 10th students.
Age Limit: Candidates should be between the age group of 8 to 18 years.
Fee for Application: There is no application fee.
Application Process: In the prescribed Performa, students should apply for the above mentioned scholarship on plain paper with one recent passport size photograph, requisite documents and other documents and related papers before the last date.
Selection Process: It is to be remembered that the said examination is conducted at two levels, Class VIII and Class X. The first tier Screening Examination known as State Level Talent Search Examination is conducted by the states and the Union Territories. On the other hand, the second tier is popularly known as the National Level Talent Search Examination. The question paper consist of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and the Mental Ability Test (MAT). The SAT paper consists of 100 multiple choice questions. The number of questions shall be divided as 20 in Mathematics, 40 in General Science and 40 in Social Sciences. The MAT consists of 100 questions, each carry one mark. The successful students in both these examination are called for face-to-face interview. On the basis of composite scores obtained in the SAT, the MAT and the personal interview, the final awards are granted to the selected students. It is to be highly noted that the pattern of examination for Class VIII and Class X will be common in all aspects.
Important Dates: The official notification related to NTSE Scholarship appears a couple of months before the start of normal academic year in all the leading vernacular and national newspaper plus employment bulletin.
