UGC Fellowships 2019
An educational scheme headed by the University Grants Commission or UGC is popularly known as the University Grants Commission SAARC fellowship scheme. This particular scheme is also known among the student communities as the SAARC Chair, Fellowship and Scholarship Scheme. The UGC is a statutory entity controlled and administered by the Government of India. In November 1956, the UGC was established in terms of an Act of Parliament. The UGC has its headquarters in New Delhi and regional centers at Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bhopal, Guwahati and Bangalore. It is responsible for maintaining and setting the standards of university education in India. It is to be highly noted that the UGC SAARC Fellowships largely assist fellows or scholars for gaining appropriate teaching experience at the post graduate level. It also gives them with a valuable scope in order to come out with research papers and other related publications. The said Fellowships aims to rightly foster a healthy relationship, bring about a bonding and understanding among the students of the South Asian region for the development and growth of their social and economic conditions. The duration of University Grants Commission SAARC Fellowships must not be less than 6 months.
Scholarship value: The passage cost incurred by the scholar should be given by the government of the country to which the scholar hails from. The fellowship must be equivalent to that of a Reader or Associate Professor in the fellow’s university or the university where he has come to do research activities. The higher of the two scales will be awarded. The fellowship gives for waiver of fees for admission, tuition and visa. The fellowship also gives for lodging, cost of purchase of books and for other living expenses.
Eligibility for UGC Scholarships: The research fellows will have to carry out research work and at the same time teach students. The applicants who are desirous of their academic career should have PhD degree. The applicants should be directly employed in research institute, a university, or any other educational organization.
Age Limit: As on a date of February, candidates should not exceed 35 years.
Fee for Application: There is no application fee.
Application Process: In the prescribed performa, interested candidates should apply for the above mentioned scholarship on plain paper with one recent passport size photograph. Along with the application form before the last date, all the requisite documents must be attested and furnished.
Selection Process: The UGC may adopt a method of selection on the basis of application form that is accompanied by the necessary or requisite documents. Then applicants are called personal interview or common examination and just before admission to the study course.

Note: Application received after the last date will not be entertained. The selected candidates are not allowed to discontinue their course in the middle of the academic year or in the actual duration of the course. This scholarship cant be exchanged for any other scholarship offered by the state government, central government or foreign nation.
